Country Home features Collins Design books on vintage Christmas ornaments

November 30, 2006

vintage-ornaments1-small.jpgWe’re fans of Country Home’s feature on Ralph Del Pozzo and David High, authors of the books ReCollections: Christmas Ornaments and ReCollections: Christmasland (Collins Design, $15 each).

Why? Because we love vintage ornaments too. We sell them in our shop, decorate our own tree with them and give them as hostess gifts during the Christmas season.

To learn more about vintage articles read A Christmas Tradition: Vintage Ornaments and The History of Christmas Ornaments and Holiday Gift Ideas for Antique Lovers.

Handbag Caddy Is The Answer To Home Spa Lady’s “Can Your Purse Make You Sick?”

November 24, 2006

My first thought was yucky when I read the Home Spa Lady’s post about Can Your Purse Make You Sick? But when I thought about it, I’m not too surprised. I already try to keep mine on by lap on the subway, use hooks in washroom stalls  and when I can I use by handbag caddy, but I’ll certainly be more conscious about where I put my bag.

Claire Louise Milne Paris Flea Market Photos

November 12, 2006

Claire Louise Milne at Needlebook has some great pictures from her recent visit to the Paris flea market. Can’t wait to hit the posh shops she saw when we head there in August 2007 for our antiquing adventure through the south of France.

Host of VoiceAmerica Channel Show Seeks Joan Stewart Publicity Hound’s Help

November 10, 2006

We’re gearing  up for our upcoming antique themed radio show hosted by Martin on VoiceAmerica Channel in 2007.

We’ve put a call out for guests through Joan Stewart’s excellent Publicity Hound newsletter. I’m a big fan of her newsletters and products.

Our call for guest should appear in next week’s newsletter. Before including our request in her newsletter, Joan asked if guests would have to pay to be on the show or be hit up for sponsorship later. Thought the questions were a bit weird; only because neither idea has even crossed our minds. Not sure if that’s good or bad…but my instinct thinks that’s good.

Looking forward to hearing some pitches from her hounds who are a savvy bunch.

The radio show will be a call-in show about the world of antiques. People can send in photos for appraisals by Martin. Each week will feature a guest to talk about a specific topic. Could be someone talking about a collectible, his or her unique collection, auctions or online auctions. Maybe even a magazine editor, an author or an interior designer who uses antiques in their work. Hoping to hear a great angle that we haven’t even thought of.

One possible guest is Judith Miller. She did drop by our booth at the Canadian Home and Country show last month. Martin chatted her up (mentioned that Take-A-Boo has been featured in the last three of her Price Guides) and ask her to be a guest on the radio show.

Oprah’s 0 magazine mentions Harper Collins author Winifred Gallagher’s It’s in the Bag

November 9, 2006

I smiled when I read Valerie Monroe’s Reading Room column in the November 2006 issue of  Oprah’s O magazine. It profiled Winifred Gallagher’s book It’s in the Bag published by Harper Collins. She mentions that ”Queen Elizabeth carries a little piece of twisted, S-shaped gold, which she hooks on a table’s edge at formal dinners to hang her evening bag.”

Sounds to me a lot like the handbag caddy that we sell at Take-A-Boo that I’m alwayshandbag-caddy.jpg raving about. Okay, ours are pewter, not twisted gold. But, swear to God, whenever and wherever I pull mine out in a restaurant invariably women stop to ask me about it.  Didn’t know that I had something in common with the Queen of England - a desire to keep our handbags off the floor.

Take-A-Boo likes IOL Travel Editor Carol Lazar’s first person account of river cruising through the south of France

November 4, 2006

Carol Lazar’s article   from South Africa’s IOL features an informative first person account of river cruising through the south of France.

Liked her tip about bringing binoculars to spy the scenery passing by. We’ll make sure we remind our group to do the same.

Carol headed from Lyon south to Avignon. On our ten-day Provence adventure, we’ll head north from Avignon to Chalon-sur-Saône with a three -night stop over in Paris, so we can visit Les Puces de Saint-Ouen. We’ll visit some of the same places as Carol did – Chalon, Lyon, Tournon, Arles and Avignon, but we’ll be hitting antique shops, flea markets and wineries  and a few other destinations along the way cruising aboard the Conde Nast Traveler rated Viking Cruise Lines.
