Trish Crawford wrote in Saturday’s Toronto Star about the importance of music in retail stores. The article resonated with us. Everyday in our antiques shop we hear positive comments from customers and passer-by’s who are drawn to the vintage jazz from the twenties through the forties that we play. This old time music is a natural fit with the
antiques and vintage finds we sell.
We see the power of this music everyday; from the frail elderly gentleman whose eyes well up with tears as taps his toe to the sounds of Gracie Fields to a toddler dancing in front of the shop to a tune from the Count Basie Orchestra.
The right music for the right retailer can provide a powerful positive shopping experience. People tell us that they make a point to walk on our side of Avenue Road so that they can hear snippets of songs as they walk by. We never thought our music would become the signature that it has for our shop.
Some of our favourite artists are: The Ambrose Brothers Orchestra, Fred Astaire, Connee Boswell, Count Basie and his Orchestra, Al Jolson, Nat King Cole, Louis Prima Bea Wain, Gracie Fields, Vera Lynn, Glenn Miller and his Orchestra.
Plus, we are always on the look out to add to our collection of old time artists such as Marlene Dietrich, Maurice Chevalier, Matteo Salvatore, Imperio Argentina, Orquestas de Jose Basso Y Alfredo D’Angelis who sing in languages other than English.
