Beatles Expert Guests on Let’s Talk Antiques

March 27, 2007

tim-neely-revised.jpgI learned some interesting tidbits in Martin’s radio show this week with Tim Neely.

1. 45s are the most valuable record collectible. I wouldn’t have thought that there was a difference between 45s and LPs.

2.  Turntables are becoming more valueable. This makes sense because once CDs came in, people starting throwing out their turntables and scarity increases value.

3. Plus, an interesting story about the Beatles “Butcher” album.

Tune in The VoiceAmerica Channel to hear all about it.

Mark Chervenka Talks About Fake Tiffany Belt Buckles

March 13, 2007

Mark Chervenka was a great guest yesterday on Martin’s “Let’s Talk Antiques” radio show on The VoiceAmerica Channel. One of the interesting things I learn from Mark wasmarkchervenka-revised.jpg about a big Bogus Buckles scam with fake Tiffany, Wells Fargo and Coca-Cola belt buckles. Some guy wrote a fake book about them, plagurized some work from a guy from the Smithsonian, all to sell these fakes. All this happened back in the seventies. Quite a story. Tune in to hear more about it.

Toronto Star mentions Let’s Talk Antiques with Martin Swinton

March 4, 2007

I was tickled to see in Saturday’s Toronto Star a short article on  Martin’s  Let’s Talk Antiques on The VoiceAmerica Channel. Being mentioned in your local newspaper is alway a treat.

Sheryl Gillette Demystifies Antiques Appraisals on Let’s Talk Antiques

March 4, 2007

sherylgillett-revised.jpgSheryl Gillett chatted with Martin for an hour about antiques on his February 26th episode of Let’s Talk Antiques on The VoiceAmerica Channel.  She was gave great, clear explanations of values (replacement versus retail).  We are always on the look out for others in the business who are interested in demystifiying antiques. Sheryl is one of them.

Coca-Cola Expert Allan Petretti On Let’s Talk Antiques with Martin Swinton

February 21, 2007

I found Martin’s guest on Let’s Talk Antiques on The VoiceAmerica Channel yesterday very interesting. His best tip, I thought, was that the future of Coca-Cola collectibles is not those commemorative repros that are being issued by the gazillions (although I knew that part already), but that it is in those items that aren’t really meant for the public (that’s the part that I didn’t really know). Things like banners, truck signs etc. Problem is Allan admitted that it’s really hard to get your hands on that stuff.

Tune into the show anytime at The VoiceAmerica Channel or download the podcast to ITunes and listen to on your way to work, like I do.

Let’s Talk Antiques with Martin Swinton on The VoiceAmerica Channel radio show is on its way with guest Mark Moran

February 13, 2007

Martin’s second show for The VoiceAmerica Channel was broadcast this morning. He told me he was a little freaked out because he only connected with the studio one minute before the live show went to air. Last week he connected ten minutes beforehand. So considering his blood pressure was maxed out, he did another great job (okay I’m a little biased). He had a few more “umms” that he would have like but as his blood pressure lessened he got into the groove. That’s part of the challenge of live radio.

markmoran-revised.jpgHis guest author Mark Moran talked about silver and collectibles in general and was very knowledgable. Not surprising as he’s authored more than 19 books.

Promoting Let’s Talk Antiques radio show on The VoiceAmerica Channel

January 23, 2007

I’m working fast and furious as we are counting down to the February 5th launch of Martin’s radio show on The VoiceAmerica Channel . The first four guests have been booked. The press release has been sent out into the universe. The landline phone and headset have been purchased at Future Shop so Martin doesn’t get a square ear during the one hour show. A little more training from the good folks at The VoiceAmerica Channel and a few more rehearsals for Martin and that should just about be it. Oh yeah, I still have to tutor Martin, my non-computer guy, on how to use Outlook Express so he can read listeners’ emails. That’s right, he’s not very computer savvy, but give him a break, his expertise is that old stuff not the new stuff.
